Frenectomy / Frenotomy
Frenum is a normal part of the oral cavity. The term frenum is attached to an organ which prevents it to move extremely. In the mouth, if a thick labial frenum exists, it might probably work way too much. This might cause the patient to develop a diastema or the gap in between upper front teeth. Even after undergoing orthodontic treatment
Some of the thick muscular frenum under the tongue might cause limited movements of the tongue and will cause speech and eating difficulties. If these are the cases, then the frenum might need to be repositioned or removal of it might be of better benefit.
